Life Events
Baptism, or christening, is a special celebration, giving thanks to God for the gift of life and publicly acknowledging God’s love. Traditionally baptism is called a ‘sacrament’, which just means a visible sign of God’s love.
If you are thinking of having your child baptised, we would be happy to join with you in giving thanks to God for this gift of life, and in supporting you as you embark with your child in this journey of faith.
To find out more please feel free to contact the church office.
Confirmation is a special service in which a person confirms the promises that were made at their baptism. If you were baptised as a child, your parents and godparents made these promises on your behalf. As a young person or adult, you may be ready to affirm these promises for yourself.
We periodically will offer confirmation classes. To find out more please feel free to contact the church office.
Holding your Wedding in the church can be a wonderful way to express connection with a rich spiritual and faith tradition, and to celebrate your love in a beautiful venue. If you live in the parish or have another qualifying connection, you may want to choose to marry at St James.
If you live in the parish and are marrying in another Church of England church, you will want to have your banns read at St James.
In either instance, or to find out more, please contact the church office.
Church of England Funerals & Memorials are available to anyone. If someone you love has died a minister can be a great support in this time. Whether you wish to have the service in church, a churchyard or crematorium, we are available to preside over the service and to offer support for as long as you feel it is needed.
To speak to someone, or to find out more, please contact the church office.
We are happy to light our Church Spire as a way of honouring a loved one on any number of special occasions, or as a memorial to one who has passed.
If you would like to have our spire lit on behalf of someone, please email us here.
