Friday Oct 2nd 10.00-12noon (prompt finish needed as funeral follows) we will be decorating the church for Harvest. This year the number of “decorators” will be down, owing to illness etc, so we really do need more help. You really don’t have to be expert at this, so if you can spare a half hour or so then please come along . No special colour scheme, just a riot of colour in thanksgiving and praise to God. A sincere “Thank you” to all the ladies and gentlemen who have faithfully cleaned the Church for many years. The good news is that from the beginning of September, the Church and the Church Hall will be cleaned by a team of professional cleaners. These cleaners will clean the church once a week, either Friday or Saturday and the Hall will need cleaning several times a week.

Jackie Long would like to thank you for all your prayers, cards, love and support. I am making slow but good progress and, apart from the recovery process, it is so good to already feel better than I have for some while especially when I wake up in the morning!

The St James website has been redesigned by David Nash – our thanks to David for giving of his time and expertise. Please have a look. The new one has rotating coloured pictures of the church.

At our next meeting on Tuesday 6th October @ 2.00pm in the Church Hall, we will be welcoming Revd Jillianne Norman as our speaker. Her talk is entitled “My work as a Hospital Chaplain” with slides. Visitors will be most welcome, do please come and join us.

Holy Communion is on Thursday September 24th @ 10 am in Church. The service lasts about 40 minutes and is followed by a cup of tea/coffee and a chat. It would be good if one or two more people, men as well, would join us for this “friendly” service.

The numbers of persons acting as sidespersons has fallen over the past year and more volunteers to take on this role would be appreciated. The sidesperson is often the first person seen by anyone attending a service and although not too onerous a task it is very important. If you think you could perform this role, or would like more details speak to me or Roger, or one of the current Sidespersons. Derek

After a break in August, the group that meets in the home of Jackie and Roger (67 Colliers Break) will resume this Monday 21 Sep, 10am to 12. It is an informal time of sharing our faith – all welcome.

26th September in the morning, David Miles will be licensed as a Lay Minister in Bristol Cathedral. We are invited to the service. If you would like to attend please sign up in the coffee area just to get an idea of numbers to give to the cathedral.
27th Sunday 10.30am Celebration service with Baptism, followed by a bring ’n’ share lunch in church. A list for donations of food is also in the church coffee area.

Saturday 17th October “Curry & Quiz Night” 7.30pm in the Church Hall. Don’t be put off though – for those who don’t like curry, there will be an alternative. More details later
